Dalam kegiatan penelitian, sosial maupun bisnis sering dijumpai sejumlah besar data tentang sesuatu yang diamati/diukur. Hasil yang diperoleh dari survey tersebut yang umumnya disajikan dalam bentuk tabulasi data sangat detail atau rinci namun terlalu sulit untuk mendapat gambaran umum sebelum data tersebut disederhanakan dalam bentuk Kurva/Diagram dan Tabel Bab II- Penyjaian data – 9 Februari 2012
